WE ENFORCE THE FORM I-864, AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT.
We represent immigrants in cases under the Form I-864, Affidavit of Support. When a foreign national immigrate to the U.S. through a family-based, her visa petitioner signs a legal contract to provide financial support.
The immigrant's right to support under the I-864 is legally enforceable. If a sponsor refuses to fulfill his responsibility, the immigrant may sue in court. We work with I-864 beneficiaries to ensure they receive the support to which they are entitled.
Sound Immigration is a registered trade name of Puget Sound Legal, P.C., a Washington State professional services corporation.
OUR TEAM.
Sound Immigration was founded by attorney Greg McLawsen. Mr. McLawsen is the leading national authority on enforcement of the Form I-864. He has published more extensively on the topic than any other attorney in the country and speaks nationwide about the subject.
Our law firm is based in Tacoma, Washington. In order to serve clients across the country we partner with local law firms who are experienced in the fields of litigation and collection. This partnership allows us to provide a high level of subject matter knowledge in I-864 enforcement, combined with the tactical knowledge of local litigators.
Representing clients in all 50 states
Our law firm is based in Washington State but represents clients across the country. Our clients communicate with us through the firm's secure online client portal. We partner with local attorneys who assist us with court appearances.
Settlement is the first step
We are often able to settle our clients' claims without the need for litigation in court. Our strong experience with I-864 enforcement allows us to argue strongly in favor a good settlement for our clients.
If required, we file a lawsuit
If the defendant is unwilling to enter into negotiations we file a lawsuit on our client's behalf. The lawsuit will be filed in either state or federal court, depending on strategic and tactical considerations for that case. Typically courts waive filing fees for our clients, which is available to those with little or no income.
No up-front legal fees or costs
Our clients do not need to pay any legal fee to begin work on a case. Instead, the firm is paid a percentage of the financial recovery that we win for a client. Known as a "contingent" legal fee, this arrangement is similar to how disability and personal injury firms represent clients.
