Starting recently, USCIS has begun telling green card applicants about their rights under the Form I-864. Now, applicants for adjustment of status who filed a Form I-485, will get a written notice at the time of their green card interview. The notice, a copy of which is below, advises them that they are the beneficiary of a Form I-864. The notice tells the applicant that the sponsor has said that βhe/she is willing and able to financially support you if needed.β
The notice does not specifically state that the applicant may sue the sponsor for support, as she has a right to do. Nonetheless, the notice at least provides some minimal education to the applicant that she does have rights under the Form I-864.
